How to use your TerraCycle Points to fundraise for a favourite cause

When you recycle through TerraCycle, you’re not only helping the planet, you’re also raising money for a charity or not-for-profit organisation of your choice. In 2021, collectors in Australia and New Zealand raised an incredible $39,295 for charities and schools – simply by meeting the minimum shipment weight when sending in their recycling. Every shipment earns TerraCycle Points which can be converted to cash donations.

At the end of March and October each year, we collect your donation requests, for payment in  June and December.

Before you redeem and donate your points, there are a few key things to remember:

  • To donate to an organisation other than our charity partners, you now need to allocate at least 3500 points ($35 AUD or $35 NZD) at a time. You may choose to nominate a school or another local community group.

  • This new minimum donation requirement does not apply to a wide range of TerraCycle charity partners; you can continue to donate to them in $10 parcels (1000 points).

  • Our charity partners include not-for-profit organisations such as the TerraCycle Global Foundation, which prevents an average of five tonnes of rubbish from entering the ocean every week.

To help you grow your points faster, watch out for our points power-up promotions for certain programs, and ensure your shipments meet the minimum weight requirements. If you are an individual collector, you could also ask your friends and family to contribute to your collection to give your points a boost!

Globally,  TerraCycle has raised more than $40 million for all kinds of organisations that support our community and our planet.

If you have any questions about the new process, which will apply the next time you go to redeem points, please get in touch: customersupport@terracycle.co.au.
